Flatter Your Favorite Features
If you don’t know where to start when it comes to styling, the easiest place to begin is in your own closet! Flattering your own features involves accentuating your unique qualities to enhance your overall appearance. Here are some tips: look in the mirror and pick out your top three features you adore about yourself! Keep those in mind when preparing your look. If it’s your eyes, wear colors that would make the color of your eyes pop out a little more. If it’s your figure, flaunt something form-fitting. If it’s your shoulders, opt for something sleeveless or off the shoulder tops. Those are just a few examples. Figure out your favorite features and style them to stand out from the crowd!
Make an Inspo Board
In any creative project, there is always a visual roadmap that guides the creative journey, this one would be the fashion inspiration board. The best way to find your style is to get some inspiration! Maybe you know your favorite features, but aren’t sure how to make them stand out. Search for styles that would resonate with you and make an inspo board - I recommend using Pinterest or something similar. Include elements like colors, patterns and styles that may resonate with you or your style. This visual reference will guide your wardrobe choices and help define your own personal style. Finding people with similar features to you that you can draw inspiration from can be extremely helpful in tailoring your style.
Play Around with Shapes
Sometimes, it is not what you wear, but how you wear it. If you know you want to wear something simple, experiment with bold poses - utilizing your arms and legs to create various shapes. If you aren’t the best at posing, let your outfit do the work. Wearing something that creates shape - such as fun shoulder pads, dramatic corsets, puffer jackets, petticoats, or different cuts in fabric - can generally allow for more simple poses. Or even go the route of choosing clothes that accentuate your natural body shape. For instance, if you want to emphasize your waist, opt for fitted tops or dresses with belts. A-line dresses or skirts can also create a flattering silhouette. Experiment with different cuts and styles to find what enhances your body shape and makes you feel confident. Either way, you will be producing a beautiful visual with the shapes you create!

Don’t Be Afraid of Colors
In the world of fashion, color is a silent communicator. Bright and bold colors can sometimes be intimidating, but the more you experiment with different color palettes, the more you will fall in love with colors you never thought you would. One way to start is by creating monochrome outfits, which is just using variations of a single color. Once you get comfortable with that, you can create a color palette of a handful of colors you think go well together, and use those in an outfit. It can be anything from light and earthy tones to radiant and vivid hues! Choose colors that complement your skin tone and suit the occasion. Don’t be afraid to mix and match, but aim for a harmonious balance in your color palette to create a visually appealing outfit.
Experiment with Layers
When I say layers, I’m talking more than just a T-shirt and a jacket. A great way to start layering clothing is by using a nice, slightly oversized, button-up because it’s so versatile. You could wear it under a sweater or long sleeve T-shirt to give it an added collar or go a step further and wear it under a sweater vest or corset tank top to make a statement. Experiment with layers by combining different textures, lengths, and styles. Mix and match fabrics like knits, denim, and leather for added interest.
Additionally, you could go vice versa and use a short sleeve button up to wear over a long sleeve shirt or hoodie to heighten a simple look into streetwear style. Another easy way to layer when it’s warmer out is by utilizing a mesh top and layer over or under it with a cute bralette, tank, or crop top. When it comes to bottoms, a classic tights and skirt always looks elegant, or you could go a different direction and combine regular or ripped jeans with some high-waisted fishnets for a more edgy appeal. Those are just some examples, but the combinations you can create are endless and it’s fun to experiment!

Accessorize!
Accessorizing is key to elevating your look. Choose accessories like statement jewelry, scarves, hats or belts to add flair. Consider the occasion and balance. If your outfit is simple, go bold for accessories; if it is already busy, opt for more subtle pierces. Shoes are the best place to start - you can completely change the aesthetic of an outfit with a shoe.
Keeping it casual? Stick to a sneaker. Aiming for elegance? Wear a nice heel or heeled boot. Wanting to pop out? Go for a platform shoe or colorful boot. Consider what else could upgrade your look - jewelry, hair clips, bags, scarves, belts, etc. Get creative and have fun with it! Accessories are the unsung heroes of fashion, as they can transform a simple outfit into a style statement. Accessories are not just embellishments, they are story tellers!
Patchwork, Patterns, and Texture
Nothing shakes up an outfit quite like patchwork, patterns, and adding texture. Patchwork is when there are different pieces of fabric sewn together; it can contain a mixture of patterns, colors, or shapes. Patchwork, with its roots deeply embedded in traditional craftsmanship, has evolved into a symbol of innovation. Be mindful of balance, pair bold patterns with more neutral pieces to avoid overwhelming the look. Don’t hesitate to layer textures like knits, leather, and silk for a visually appealing and dynamic ensemble.
Not only is this a fun way to add texture to an outfit, but it can also add shape to it, like mentioned above. You can also just utilize different patterned garments to mix and match to your liking to give your outfit more depth. Other ways to add texture is by using clothing that contains embroidery, pearls or gems, faux fur or feathers, or unique fabric types.

Be a Trend-Setter!
Trends are a great way to see what’s popular and gain some inspiration, but you don’t always have to follow them. Some of my best outfits have come from my own creative ideas. Stand out from the crowd and stick to your own unique style. Don’t be afraid to truly express yourself. Go bold or go home! Being a trendsetter involves embracing your unique style and experimenting with fashion. Stay informed about current trends but don’t be afraid to set your own.
Mix classic pieces with on-trend items to create a distinctive look. Confidence is key. Wear what makes you feel good and others may follow your lead. Remember, trends come and go but true style is timeless. Use social media to showcase your style and connect with like-minded individuals. Collaborate with local designers or contribute to fashion blogs to establish your presence. Stay authentic and confident in expressing your personal style to inspire others.
Embrace Versatility
The best thing about fashion is that you don’t have to stick to just one style. You can express yourself however you want in the moment and there are no real “rules” because there’s no one way to do it. As a model, you will want to build your portfolio showcasing various looks to demonstrate your ability to adapt to different themes. Embrace versatility by investing in pieces that can be styled in various ways. Opt for neutral colors and classic cuts that can be easily mixed and matched. Accessories play a crucial role– they can transform a look effortlessly. Consider layering for different occasions, and don’t hesitate to experiment with diverse styles to discover what makes you feel confident and adaptable in your fashion choices.
Most Importantly, Embrace Your Confidence
Although confidence isn’t a physical item you can style, it shows through your aura. It is important you take into consideration what makes you feel the most confident and to also avoid the things that don’t. Sometimes, there are certain trends, colors, or shapes that we don’t feel great wearing and that’s okay! The styling options are endless and once you find what makes you feel like a baddie, that’s the energy you will bring with you on set and it will show through the photos!
Mastering the art of styling yourself involves understanding your body shape, personal preferences, and current trends. Build a versatile wardrobe with key pieces that can be mixed and matched. Pay attention to details like accessorizing and balancing colors, patterns and textures. Regularly assess and refine your style based on what makes you feel confident and authentic. Keep experimenting, stay informed on ever changing fashions and trust your instincts to curate a wardrobe that truly reflects your unique identity. By implementing some (or all) of these tips, you will elevate your style and stand out as a model, creating a distinctive and memorable presence. Tap into your inner fashion icon, stay adaptable, and let your unique style shine through in every photograph.
