Feel Good Photography: An Interview With EJ Mañón
Enrique Javier Mañón, also known as EJ Mañón, is a photographer, writer, and business owner based in Phoenix, Arizona. As the photographer and owner of Feel Good Photography, EJ specializes in wedding, quinceañera, and portrait photography. EJ’s impressive photography portfolio features a diverse range of models and aesthetics, including fashion and cosplay photoshoots as well as business headshots. After emigrating from México City to America, EJ began to fully develop his photography skills, exploring more fashion and conceptual work in his photos. As an artist, EJ describes himself as a team player who is both creative and persevering. EJ has a true talent for working with models and capturing his subjects in a way that makes them look fierce, bold, and beautiful. With vibrant colors and striking poses, EJ consistently creates elegant and captivating images that highlight the unique personalities of his models.

EJ’s artistic journey began back when he was only eight years old, when he first became inspired to try drawing and taking photos. This passion only grew stronger as time went on and by the time he was in college in México, he began studying photojournalism and pursuing photography as his future career. If he had not become an artist, EJ says that he would have also loved to be a historian. After moving to the United States, he continued to follow his love for photography and fully find himself as an artist. As he matured in his work, he discovered that his beliefs and ideals were challenged each day, which helped him to grow as an artist throughout the various learning experiences that he encountered.

Moving from México to America helped EJ to grow in his perspective and allowed him to further develop his craft. He is not afraid of a challenge, and believes in perseverance as a means to developing character and producing a high standard of creative work. “I work hard to achieve results to open myself to new opportunities,” he shares. “I believe in being consistent and upgrading my skills and knowledge. I need to learn from my mistakes, because these can offer me a different way to do things. To create art on a much deeper level, it is necessary to take steps toward evolution. I can be a better artist when looking for challenges that take me out of my comfort zone.” When it comes to his artistic process, EJ says he believes in epiphany and being eclectic. His inspiration is derived from his own life and the world around him. Some of his favorite colors to incorporate into his work are magenta, purple, and yellow because of the unique way that they blend together. His absolute favorite projects are cosplay photoshoots based off of his favorite movies and comics. In the near future, EJ says that fans can expect to see more Marvel cosplay photoshoots.

For EJ, being an artist has opened up a brand new world of opportunity for self-expression and inspiration within a supportive and dynamic community of like-minded creatives. “The thing that I love about my community,” he says, “is that we can be cooperative and support each other when we have art as a goal.” EJ has worked closely with Contagion Media throughout his career, collaborating on numerous exciting creative projects. He is unified in the vision of utilizing art as a way to heal the world, as he describes, “Art can change the world in different ways. Much has been said about this, but mainly art can change the world when the artist shows those things that society refuses to see. Art always challenges us to feel the experience of the less fortunate, for example.”
