Monochromatic

For a truly eye-catching look, create a photoshoot using only one color palette. For a high fashion look, incorporate bold colors and matching props. If you are shooting fashion for a magazine, try doing multiple monochromatic looks with complimentary colors. This will add variety in the editorial, and looks amazing for magazine spreads.

Floral

Looking for a feminine and soft aesthetic? Incorporate some beautiful blooms into your photoshoot for a romantic and whimsical feel that will leave your fans gasping. Consider matching the colors of the flowers to the wardrobe for a cohesive look, this will give it the best visual look. You can elevate your composition and add dimension to your photographs by changing up the depth of field with the flowers.

Fruit

Need a creative idea for a spring or summer photo shoot? Try using various fruits as props in your photoshoot for a fun, playful vibe. Shoot by a swimming pool or set up a bright colored backdrop for added fun. For wardrobe, beach or cottage-core styling will create that fresh look.

Vintage

Go back in time with classic old-school poses, colors, and props that evoke nostalgia! Vintage style is a wonderfully diverse theme and you can make it your own. You can take so many different directions here: retro, art deco, the atomic age, and even punk. Highlighting the fashion and makeup of past eras is a great way to get inspired for a concept photoshoot.

Metallic

Shine bright like a diamond with this sleek, metallic themed shoot! Choose gold, silver or rose gold and then color coordinate the backdrop, fashion, and models. Metallic makeup is a striking way to take a look to the next level in your photographs. The ideal setting for a metallic shoot would be a studio with metallic or plain backdrops, or a place with minimal background distractions.

Water

Capture mesmerizing motion through water droplets or even underwater shots for an interesting twist on regular photography! Using reflections in water can also be a unique way to add perspective. If you attempt this theme, make sure to properly protect your camera, as it can get damaged with exposure to water.

Shadow Play

High contrast light will give dimension and drama to your images. You can create dynamic silhouettes, and get more abstract images by lighting only the edges of your subject. Look for intricate patterns on walls or floors that will add intrigue to your photographs. Once you start seeing light this way, it can become one of your favorite ways to shoot. The possibilities are endless!

Minimal

Keep it simple but sophisticated! Looks that rely on clean lines and minimalistic props/backgrounds can provide maximum impact! Earth tone color palettes work wonderfully with minimalist looks. Keep it natural with the makeup too, showcasing the model’s raw beauty. Try an urban cityscape or a black or white backdrop for this style.

Fantasy

Transport viewers into another world with this imaginative theme! Think outside the box when coming up with hair/makeup looks as well as props. For this shoot, imagine lots of flowy fabrics and intricate hairstyles/makeup in front of a beautiful landscape. This is a fun theme to keep in mind while traveling. Keep your eye out for stunning locations like lakes, mountains or sand dunes. You could try themes like science fiction, superheroes, fairy tales, and many more!  Wardrobe, hair, and makeup choices are essential in making the fantasies really come to life in the photographs. You are only limited by your imagination!

Neon/Black Light

For this concept, use glow in the dark paint, black light bulbs, and other electric touches for a high-energy and edgy look. Photography technique is crucial for getting a high quality photo under these conditions since the paints only show up in the dark. Experimenting with slow shutter for this type of photo shoot can yield incredible results. It may take some practice, but it is well worth the effort!

Once you have decided on a photoshoot theme, fill out a mood board of posing ideas, colors schemes, and hair/ make-up inspirations. This way, you have something physical (or digital) to refer back to while shooting your project. You can even mix several different concept boards together! By using these 11 ideas to stay inspired and spark your creativity, your fashion photography will surely catch the eyes of many!
