Hey, my name is Kevin, and I’m a fashion and lifestyle photographer based out of Phoenix. My photography journey started when I was very young. I would take photos of my family constantly—I was always the designated photographer and videographer. I didn’t realize it was a true passion until my friends introduced me to taking photos of literally anything during high school. That’s when I downloaded Instagram and became completely enthralled with photography. Fast forward to college, I realized I could actually make a living out of it, and I’ve been shooting ever since. It’s been about six or seven years, and I’ve never let it go.

The type of photography I like to do is purely based on my personality and my expression at the time. A lot of the time, I’m very happy and excited when I’m shooting, and you can kind of tell through how dynamic the photos are. They’re often very moody—I really enjoy that style. I like invoking some sort of emotion in the viewer. That’s the whole basis of my photography: the art of expression.
My creative process is very sporadic. My mind isn’t really linear, so I can get an idea from anything. Right now, it’s spring, and I really enjoy the yellow trees and leaves. That alone can inspire me to do a shoot. Recently, I shot with a friend who was wearing a white gown in front of those yellow trees, and it turned out really beautiful. I’m constantly inspired by the present moment and how I’m feeling.

Certain artists inspire me as well, like Frank Ocean. He expresses himself in such a raw and present way, and that’s something I want to portray in my photos. That’s a big part of what goes into my creative process.
The reason I became an artist is because I’ve always been artistically inclined. Growing up, I spent a lot of time alone, and I would fill that time with drawing, painting, and even playing the flute at one point. I feel like I’ve always been an artist—it’s just who I am and how I express myself.
One message I want to send to my audience is to freely express yourself 100% artistically. That’s the best way to showcase your work—full expression and transparency with yourself and others. That’s something I try to embody in my own work as well.
I love creating because it helps me process what’s going on in my life. If I’m in a bad mood, I can go out and create, and it opens up my mind and heart. It allows me to see things from a different perspective. Creating is a part of me—it’s when I feel most like myself.
The hardest part about being a creative, in my opinion, is consistency. There was a year where I barely shot—maybe two shoots total—just because of life. Staying disciplined and consistently showing up is one of the biggest challenges.
A typical day of creating for me involves looking at a moodboard, going to a location, and visualizing how the shoot could look. During the shoot, I try not to be too rigid with structure. I prefer to let things flow organically—that’s when the best results happen.

I love working with a team on creative projects because it allows for collaboration and the exchange of ideas. Everyone brings a different perspective—the hairstylist, the makeup artist—and that collective vision creates something much bigger than what one person could do alone.
Art influences the world because it’s a form of communication, which is a fundamental part of the human experience. Art has the power to spread awareness, whether positive or negative. We see art everywhere, even in everyday objects like the couch I’m sitting on. Someone created it, and someone chose it. Art can influence, empower, and bring awareness to important topics. It’s truly a way of life, whether people realize it or not.
Final Thoughts
What makes this mini documentary resonate isn’t just the visuals or the story but Kevin’s vulnerability and honesty. Kevin Fides reminds us that creativity isn’t about perfection or constant output, but about showing up authentically, even in inconsistent seasons. His perspective on expression, collaboration, and emotional storytelling reinforces a larger truth within the visual arts: the most powerful work comes from within. As audiences continue to crave depth over aesthetics, this film stands as a compelling reminder that real artistry doesn’t just capture moments but transforms them into a deeper meaning we regularly experience in life.
